Standing Strong When All Seems Lost , By Rev. Christopher J. Derring, Th.D
14Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD. Psalm 27:14
It’s easy to believe God and have confidence in Him when all is well and everything is going according to plan. But when all hell is seemingly unleashed against us, then we find what we are made of.
1. Health Problems
2. Money Problems
3. Family Problems
4. Work Problems
5. Everyday Problems
Every one of has some kind of problems, no one is exempt from them. The question we should be considering is how will I react to the problem when they arise in my life.
Option #1 Faith
Option # 2 Fear
How we react to problems or how we act within the problems is the evidence of which option we have chosen.
FAITH Peace
FEAR Worry
FAITH Assurance
FEAR Doubt and uncertainty
FAITH Direction
FEAR Confusion
FAITH answers
FEAR Questions
FAITH Victory and Triumph
FEAR Defeat and Death
The path we choose to take when problems come, will decide which outcome that we will ultimately experience. Standing strong in Faith when everything is going wrong, and all seems lost, is not a feeling we get, but rather a choice we have to make.
23And [so] the Scripture was fulfilled that says, Abraham believed in (adhered to, trusted in, and relied on) God, and this was accounted to him as righteousness (as conformity to God's will in thought and deed), and he was called God's friend. James 2:23 (Amplified Bible)
A conscious decision to believe God, and to believe God’s word, and what it says, rather than excepting the circumstances we are facing, rather than excepting what we feel, or what we see, but instead choosing to believe what God’s word declares even when it is opposite of the facts before us . This is standing in Faith.
Our problems are real, the symptoms of our problems are real, that is a fact. But God’s word is Truth. And God’s truth will override and change all fact. Causing it to come into subjection and obedience to God’s truth. If , we will believe and stand in faith.
10Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. Psalm 46:10
10Let be and be still, and know (recognize and understand) that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations! I will be exalted in the earth! Psalm 46:10 (Amplified Bible)
We must let some things be, anything that hinders us from recognizing and understanding God, has got to be let go. So that we can be still, and quiet , in the presence of God , and be led and directed and strengthened by His Holy Spirit.
Satan will use anything he can to get our focus off of God so that once we are distracted , our focus is shifted from faith to fear .To stand in faith when all around you is in total ciaos, will cost you something. The price of victory is paid for by your pursuit. Pursuit of God’s word, God’s presence, God’s will , God’s Love .
18.......but be filled ( be being filled, original Greek )with the Spirit; 19Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; 20Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; Ephesians 5:18-20
Staying filled up with God’s word is the only way to come through any battle.
There is an old saying. “If you fill your heart with God’s word when things are going good, your heart will fill your mouth with faith when things are going bad.
King David's example of standing strong when all Seems lost
1.God rejects Saul as King, and sends Samuel to anoint David as the New King.
( I Samuel 16:1-13)
2. David is a loyal servant to King Saul even though He is rightful King.
( I Samuel 16:21-23
3. David kills Goliath and becomes a National Hero in Israel ( I Samuel 17:1-58 , 18:6-16)
4.King Saul is filled with jealousy and attempts to Kill David on several occasions ( I Samuel chapters 18 - 30 )
5. David flees for his life to Ramah ( I Samuel 19:12-18)
6. David flees for his life to Nob ( I Samuel 21:1-9)
7. David flees for his life to Gath but is refused refuge by it’s King
8. David flees for his life to adullam in a cave (a place of rest) ( I Samuel 22:1-4)
9. 400 men join David as his loyal followers
10. David and his men defeat the philistines in keilah ( I Samuel 23:1-5)
11. King Saul hears of David’s whereabouts in Keilah and attempts to have David Killed yet again.
12. David flees for his life to a wilderness area of Ziph ( I Samuel 23:1-5)
13. David has opportunity to kill Saul but spares his life instead. ( I Samuel 24)
14. king Saul defeated by the Philistines and commits suicide before his capture.
( I Samuel 31:1-10)
15. David is finally crowned King Of Judah ( II Samuel 2:1-4
16. David reigns as King of Judah for 7 years and 6 months
17. David rules as King of Judah and Israel both for 33 years
18. King David’s total reign as King 40 years and 6 months.
6And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God. 1 Samuel 30:6
When we stay in God’s presence, in the midst of the battle, we may, like David, feel some pressure, experience some pain, but in His presence we will encourage ourselves, And God will give us His strength to stand strong till Victory comes.
25 I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken
or their children begging bread. Psalm 37:25 (New International Version)
3Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; 4Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
14Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD. Psalm 27:14
No Matter what we go through, even when all seems lost, God is with us. And if we stay close to Him we will see victory. Because God will always see us through.
